The flag hung from its pole, a bold red, white, and blue against the bright autumn sky. The azure expanse was dotted with clouds, their edges like cotton wool against the sky, and the trees in the park had shifted into their autumnal coats of reds, golds, yellows and greens.

People were slowly making their way to the flagpole, some strolling along the paths, others stopping to converse. Though the group was small, their presence was evident, and as they gathered around the flag, an intensity seemed to be lingering in the air.

The flag, draped from its high pole, was being flown at half-staff. Even from a distance, it was clear that something momentous had passed, and the feeling of the people was palpable. As they stood there in the park, with the gesture of respect for those who had gone before them, the sun seemed to shine even brighter, an outpouring of love in the crisp fall air.

Central Park
