Cloudy Times Square, Manhattan, NYC.

The rain had been falling intermittently all morning, but as the light began to fade in the late afternoon, the sky deepened to a soft grey, fresh and cleansing after the long summer days of oppressive heat. In the fading twilight, Manhattan's iconic Times Square took on an almost mystical quality; the upper stories of the buildings seemed to be shrouded in a low-lying cloud, and the bright signs of the billboards illuminated the once-dreary atmosphere with a sudden burst of brilliant color.

The traffic on 7th Avenue was surprisingly sparse; the rain had cleared most of the people from the streets and the otherwise congested lanes of vehicles were now largely empty. But the ever-present yellow cabs continued to ferry their passengers around the city; like all New Yorkers, they did not seem to be deterred by the rain.

The sidewalks, too, were unusually vacant; the few brave souls who had ventured out that day were busy photographing the wondrous scene, capturing the beauty of the city in muted blues and greens and greys. With each drop of rain, the city seemed to take on a new life, and the people who were there to witness the transition looked on with awe and admiration.
