Empire State Building, Manhattan New York Skyline.

The stormy clouds had finally given way to the sun, and the light shone down on the New York City skyline in all its glorious majesty. The Empire State Building was at the center of the picture, standing tall and proud, its spire pointing skyward. The cityscape was awash with muted greys, browns and blues, as if painted by a master artist in a single stroke.

Light and shadows danced across the horizon, almost as if in a choreographed routine, while the East River ebbed and flowed beneath the city. A passenger ferry took its sweet time cruising upriver, its passengers admiring the striking contrast between the light and dark areas of the cityscape.

The sun and the sky, the Empire State Building and the East River below, the lights and the shadows — all of it together made an absolutely beautiful picture. The photographer stood there, transfixed, taking in the incredible sight and feeling a deep sense of appreciation for the beauty of his city.
