Yellow Cabs in Times Square Manhattan, New York City, NYC.

The yellow cabs crept along Broadway, past the bustling crowds and marquee signs and neon billboards of W44th street and Times Square. The sky was grey with white clouds, filtering the light that, nonetheless, still reflected off the polished paintwork of the cabs.

The air was alive with an aural cacophony — the rumblings of engines, honking of horns, and the many voices of the massed people on the sidewalk. New Yorkers speaking in languages from all around the world, their conversations accompanied by the low thrum of street life.

Amidst the maelstrom, one voice rose above the rest: an elderly man, reciting lines of Shakespeare in a crisp British accent. His words, like a reprieve from the noise and bustle of the city, filled the air with a lyrical beauty that belied the chaotic scene before him.

As the cabs rolled up and down the avenue, those within them seemed oblivious to the man's song, or perhaps willfully dismissing its awing power. But for those within earshot, the man and his words provided a momentary respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.
