The night was a slowly building masterpiece. As twilight settled its heavy, purple blanket along the edges of the day, the lower Manhattan skyline glowed with the promise of what was to come. The cotton-candy clouds had dispersed, leaving the fading blue sky above to bid farewell to the city once again. A chorus of yellows, oranges, and pinks cascaded along the horizon, followed by a second wave of violets and then blues.

Down on the illuminated courts of Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, people were still out playing sports, their laughter competing with the rhythm of the water lapping against the shore. In the middle of the park stood a grove of trees, and around it, a handful of couples sat on the benches, enjoying the last moments of the day. In the stillness, the twinkling starlights of Manhattan seemed close enough to touch.

As the sun finally set completely, Igor felt a thrill of anticipation for what the night would bring. Taking one last look at the sweeping skyline, he turned and headed back into the city. He had the feeling this was going to be a night he would never forget.
